We thought you would like to know some basic information.

If You’ve Never Trained Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Your first class is free and private. If you like and decide to start training, you will still have two more private lessons before you can go to the beginner group.

  • We recommend you attend one of our Introductory classes for your first class. Please check the times here.

  • The first step, choose what days suits you better. Please complete the form or show up at the Academy 10 to 15 minutes before the Jiu-Jitsu introductory class (check the timetable availability).

  • Please wear a t-shirt and shorts/comfortable spat or trousers (no zippers) to your first session - there’s no need to buy Gi or No-Gi kit until you’re sure you want to commit to training.

  • All that’s left to do now is turn up to the class you’ve selected 15 minutes before it’s scheduled to begin and we’ll look after you from there.

  • Note - footwear is required to be worn at all times within the gym when not on the mats.

  • Have fun!

If You’ve Trained BJJ Previously

  • Ok, you already have some BJJ experience; please review our timetable and select the class you’re most interested in - see class times here.

What will you learn?

You will learn the essential techniques of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Our classes cover the most important aspects such as; warm-ups, self-defence, break-fall, techniques, drills, and ground grappling.

In addition, you gain self-confidence, raise self-esteem and improve focus and concentration.

And yet it leaves the stress and all the headache of work on the outside of the mat as you seek to overcome your limits.

And all this, in an environment where you find people with similar characteristics to yours, with similar goals. An excellent opportunity to increase your circle of friendships.

Falling in love with Jiu-Jitsu is natural for those who attend classes here at Soma Jiu-Jitsu Academy because we are passionate about Jiu-Jitsu, and we convey this feeling.
